Can A Drift Car Beat The Irish Land Speed Record?

In the immortal words of Ricky Bobby, “I just wanna go fast” – That’s exactly what Dave said when he took ownership of his Ford Mustang RTR. With almost 900bhp under the bonnet, it was time to test just how fast this machine could go.

A quick call from the Drift Games team to Patrick at Runway Club (Ireland’s leading drag racing organisation) and a 45min window was opened at Weston Airport near Dublin. Due to the time of year, track temperatures were almost at 0 degrees and the runs would be made under the cover of darkness. It sounds dangerous, because it was!

The Irish land speed record stands at 302kmph on a closed road, while the fastest a car had ever been on a runway was 290kmph. How would the Mustang fair out? With conditions against us and a very nervous Dave strapped in and ready to go, it was time to find out!

So, what did you guys think of the challenge? Would you like to see us undertake more new challenges in our new Drift Games Vlog episodes? Let us know in the YouTube comments section what you’d like to see more of.
